Daylight

When I was young, foolish and unknown
I used to ask, in moments of despair:
“Would anyone care, if I wasn't there?”
The answer, I reckoned, was full-blown:
They will, if you let them
As I grew older, more aware
Time would reveal, in wisdom
That people, everywhere
would come and go - it's no prison
Although
As I would soon see
“Come and go”
Isn't all there is to be:
Some stay
Some come back
Some walk away
Some hijack
And some,
never truly leave
As may harsh weather
or reprieve
stop them altogether;
They still make sure
For all that you endure
That after the long night
You always see the daylight
